Off the coast at this time of year, whales are migrating to colder waters for the summer.
If we’re lucky, we might be able to catch them taking a breath through their spiracles, or blow-holes. The word relates to aspiration, or breathing. According to the Oxford English Dictionary its old meaning is breath or spirit.
