What drives writers to write?
Is it the thrill of the chase while hunting that elusive publication deal?
Is it the glory that friends and family will bestow on you when you tell them you’re a writer?
Or is the lavish writer lifestyle?
Some writers may have plucked up the courage to tell their friends and family what they’ve been up to and why it is they carry a notebook wherever they go. They may aspire to one day being published and perhaps even dream of penning a bestseller. Yet, these dreams alone are not enough to sustain a writer through to the end of a first draft.
So what keeps writers going? It’s something much more innate. They must write.
People with a burning passion to write could be said to be scripturient. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, this rare, old word has its origins in Latin and is first recorded in the 17th Century.
